ABOUT ALISHA
Along with lived experience, I have been a social worker for 9 years, working across the Children and Family services sector to support vulnerable children and families to build stronger foundations.
My professional journey is underpinned by a compassionate and inquisitive approach, recognising the profound impact of one's attachment experiences on their worldview, capacity for trust, and familial roles. I'm committed to empowering parents to better understand their own parental instincts and the meaning behind their children's emotions and behaviour patterns. With a dedicated passion for keeping families together, my purpose through Secure Starts is to accompany parents on a path of self-reflection, delving into how their own upbringing influences their communication and connection with their children, in the hope of building stronger relationships and more secure children in our communities.
What do I do?
I am registered and experienced in delivering Circle of Security Parenting Program and Bringing up Great Kids which both inform my attachment counselling and parenting support. I hold over 6 years experience building working relationships with biological, kinship and foster parents to meet the needs of their children, along with several therapeutic certificates such as: Key Skills in Family Systems Therapy, Understanding the Neurobiology of complex Trauma, Healing Relational Trauma through play.

At Secure Starts, I work in-home with parents and caregivers who have children aged 0-5, incorporating a variety of therapeutic and evidence based practices to identify with parents their own attachment needs and empower them to have agency in how they respond to their children's emotional needs, as well as their own. Through our journey of attachment counselling we will use play, motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, mindfulness and self-care practices, critical reflection, and various other resources to establish key foundations for connection.
